Bourke St – Bourke St Mall and Bourke Hill

This is the real heart of Melbourne and what you will find here is the hustle and bussle of the city, people shopping during their lunch breaks, other people eating their lunch in the sun most people enjoying the company of friends on a day out shopping in the city.

In Bourke St you will find our major department stores which are Myer and David Jones as well as many popular chain stores and a few eclectic stores to suit anyone’s tastes.

The magic of Bourke Street is in the cobble stoned back streets.

Bourke Hill is the stylish top end of this street. Enjoy a meal or a coffee in the sophisticated and much loved Grossi Florentino, Pellegrini’s or Bottega. For a classy tea time try the majestic Windsor Hotel that is just around the corner.

For movie lovers our main cinemas are here including Hoyts, Village and Greater Union. Lumiere is also here for those who love foreign films.

Exhibition Street cuts along Bourke St and it is where you will find Dame Nellie Melba's favourite theatre which is the glorious Her Majesty’s Theatre which was built in 1886 and. Across the street is the Comedy Theatre for a night of fun and laughs.

Around the corner at the very top end of the street on Spring St you will find another grand lady called the Princess Theatre which will transport you back in time when she was built in 1886.

Old Treasury Building is also along Sprint St which sits directly in front of Bourke St facing the city.

     Southbank Melbourne

    Southbank

Southbank has world class views, first class shopping a few five star hotels Crown Casino and the arts precinct at your door. The views of the city are sublime. Dine along Yarra River and enjoy the views that you will cherish forever. Learn more about Southbank.

    Paris End of Collins Street

Collins St and Little Collins St

This is one of my favourite parts of town specifically the Paris end of Collins St which is the top end near Spring St.

Here you will find all the top designers including Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Chanel, Prada, Bally, Hermes and Giorgio Armani.

The architecture at this end of town is just wonderful which ranges from Gothic-style churches to Art Deco marvels.

You will also find the Grand Hyatt and some of Melbourne’s most exclusive private clubs here but more on that later.

If you love your jewellery then further down the street you will find Tiffany & Co, Hardy Jewellers and Watches of Switzerland. They are all close together and right near the corner of Collins and Elizabeth Street.

The Rialto Tower is at the lower end of the street which is near Spencer Street where you can get a 360 degree view of the city from the Observation Deck. You will also fin the Stock Exchange here and a little known store just popping up in our city called Krispy Kreme!

Little Collins St is where all the hip bars are in the mysterious backstreets.

    Federation Square

    Federation Square

The newer part of the city that caused quite a stir due to its architecturaly eclectic design.

Here you will find 15 restaurants with lots of cafes and bars to enjoy a lovely day in.

You will also find The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia which is the world's first major gallery dedicated exclusively to Australian Art, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image and the National Design Centre.

For motoring enthusiast there is the Champions: Australian Racing Museum & Hall of Fame.

The Melbourne Visitor Centre is also here to help you enjoy the very best this city has to offer.

    Chinatown

Down Little Bourke St you will find our beautiful fiery red Chinatown which was established in the Victorian gold rush era in 1854 and is the oldest Chinatown in Australia.

There are many Asian nationalities which have set up shop here and you can try different types of cuisine from Chinese, Thai, Malaysian, Vietnamese and Japanese. Yum! I love Asian food.

The Asian Food Festival is on from August-September and the Chinese New Year Festival is celebrated in February.

    Docklands

This is a beautiful new area which Melburnians themselves are just discovering.
    The scenic views are stunning.

It is right on the waterfront on Victoria Harbour which has a brand new marina where you can admire the beautiful boats that gently float on the sparkling water.

Treasure this view from the many different types of restaurants available here. You can choose from Greek, Asian, Italian, Middle Eastern and of course my favourite, seafood.

There are also many lovely cafes and trendy bars as well if you prefer to have a sip of coffee or my preference, tea instead.

Your eye won’t escape the eclectic art you can view along the esplanade or the apartment blocks, some of which are shaped as sails.

    Come and enjoy Docklands Melbourne.
