Jam Factory - South Yarra
Jam Factory is a small shopping complex in South Yarra which is one of my favourite places in Melbourne. Inside it you will find Village Cinemas. Many movies have their premieres here and many Hollywood movie stars have walked the red carpet surrounded by screaming fans to promote their films. Walking inside you find Pancake Parlour, Scooter Shoes a beauty salon called Soma, Villa and Hut the furniture store. There is also a wonderfully curious cafe, "smoking bar" called Mr Bogarts - Tobbaconist and Bar. (As of 30 June 2007 no smoking is allowed in any public places such as bars or cafes. Hopefully this will not be the end of Mr Bogarts). The front window is a giant glass humidor with the temperature gauges (hygrometer) showing. A few of the select cigars you can buy are Davidoff, Zino, Cohiba, Romeo y Julieta and Monte Cristo. Inside you will find a bar with dark brown walls and rich dark mahogany furniture. The walls are adorned with framed photos of celebrities smoking cigars. It feels like part of a movie set from days gone by. You would think it is out of place here but it really fits in.
Make a Grand Entrance
Almost to the centre of the factory you will find a circular cafe surrounded by tables and chairs called Paparazzi Cafe. How appropriate! The Face Shop is hidden to the side and there is a games arcade there for the kids to go crazy playing all the games available. Surrounding the Factory you will find Virgin Megastore, TGI Fridays, Boost Juice and Borders. There are places there for kids and for adults. What a perfect mix. Drop the kids off at the movies, go to the beauty salon have a few treatments or spend a few hours in quite reflection at Mr Bogarts. Pick up the kids go for lunch or dinner then home. They have thought of it all. And all inside one centre. Also great for friends who want to go out together but not everyone wants to see a movie. Many choices available there for everyone. Definitely a place that needs exploring.
