See the beautiful Docklands Melbourne is creatingDocklands Melbourne is a new area which has many apartment buildings overlooking the spectacular views of Victoria Harbour and the beautiful marina with the boats floating silently on the crystal blue water. Treasure this view from the many different types of restaurants available here. You can choose from Greek, Asian, Italian, Middle Eastern and of course my favourite, seafood. There are also many lovely cafes and trendy bars as well if you prefer to have a sip of coffee or my preference, tea instead.
Eclectic and eccentric Sculptures at Docklands Melbourne
Your eye won’t escape the sculptures (pictured above, photo by Nathan Jones) which you can view along the esplanade or the apartment blocks, some of which are shaped as sails. This is the place to be during New Years Eve as there is always fireworks, bands and thousands of people enjoying the festivities which includes me. For the past few years friends and I have chosen to see the New Year in here. Not many people have discovered this area so it isn't as crowded as in the CBD -Central Business District. So get in before the masses do. All the restaurants are always booked out months in advance around New Years Eve as everyone gets a view of the stunning harbour. Even on the weekends it is hard to get a table here so book in advance. The apartments are all brand new with all the amenities you would expect of a five star hotel. New apartment buildings are also being built and are due for completion in 2008. Serviced apartments are also available. Most prices start at over AUS$350,000. The views from these apartments are spectacular. The real treat is at night when all the lights shine like stars in the heavens against a blanket of silky dark blue sky. Heaven. If you have a yacht there are three marinas; Marina YE, NewQuay Marina and Waterfront City Marina. They cater for all size vessels including small recreational craft, commercial vessels and super yachts. These marinas offer berthing for day trippers, overnighters and private and public berthing with leases to suit you.
