1806 is the hottest club in town

It is World Cocktail Week so head on down to Melbourne's hottest club 1806 and try one of their cocktails.

The first time the word "cocktail" was used was in 1806 hence the club name.

1806 has a drink for everyone. Try the Bittered Sling, the chosen drink of sophisticated businessmen in 1806, or maybe an Aviation, which is gin with violet, lemon and maraschino that was popular from 1917.

Whatever your poison, head towards 169 Exhibition Street and enjoy!

The highest rated bar is Der Raum, which is located at 438 Church St, Richmond and came in at number four.

This bar has also been voted Australian Bar of the Year 2008 by Australian Gourmet Traveller Magazine. It was given an overall 8/10 ranking by voters.

The other bars to make it onto the list were The Collection, located at 328 Bridge Rd, Richmond, which came in at 22, and the Melbourne Supper Club - a favourite amongst celebrities was voted 24.

Hot New bars in Melbourne

The first is THE CLARENDON at 209 Clarendon St, South Melbourne.

This bar has received a stylish new fit-out which has short listed it for the 2008 Australian Interior Design Awards.

The smooth interior is well worth a peek and check out The Clarendon's intriguing list of weekly and monthly dining specials, like "Aphrodisiacs Anonymous".

The other bar is LOCANDA CUCINA BAR on the Cnr of Lt Bourke & Exhibition Sts, Melbourne.

It is designed as an all-day eatery and bar. It is the latest project by the DiMattina group which is a haven for lovers of all things Italian.

You will find fuss-free Italian inspired food, fresh coffee and premium cocktails. Cast your eyes upon the floor to ceiling wine racks.

Black Label luggage by Samsonite

Black Label is Samsonite's line of premium accessories for the jet set elite.

Now they have finally released into Australia three new collections - Alexander McQueen, Vintage and X’Lite

I really like the Vintage collection. It looks like early Louis Vuitton luggage. Very classy, very glamorous with superior old world craftsmanship.

Alexander Queen is in a world of his own. With one design he uses the cast of a real man’s ribcage to shape an upright case.

Then X’Lite is the lightest, strongest Samsonite of all.

It uses revolutionary CURV technology – a super strong, super light fabric that offers supreme luxury with a high-tech edge.

3 of the best rooms with a view

Walter's Wine Bar, upper level, Southgate, Southbank
An oldie but a goodie with a view of the city that must be seen.

The Melbourne Supper Club, 161 Spring Street
A favourite for celebrities, it has an old gentleman's club feel with wood panelling and deep leather couches and a great view of Old Parliament House.

Melba Brasserie, Langham Hotel,1 Soutbank Avenue, Southbank
A great place for a drink and fine buffet. Lots of window seating for you to gaze over gorgeous Melbourne.

Enjoy the charismatic Melbourne Precincts - from the Paris End of Collins St to Chinatown then to the Greek Quarter and all things Italian.

Funky new designs for Louis Vuitton jewellery

Louis Vuitton has teamed up with musician Pharrell Williams for some spunky new designs which are now available in stores in Melbourne.

One particular design is a gorgeous gold ring with a crown on it encrusted with pink diamonds and the LV initials in the middle.

The promo video is available on YouTube which is proving a big hit.

The best kept coffee secret in Melbourne.

Do you love your coffee? Then you will love the place where all the people in the know go!

Quists is a coffee house tucked secretly down 166 Little Collins St.

They were Melbourne's first coffee roasters and have been in business for over 65 years, starting in 1938.

Their customers over the years have been among the rich and famous including Pavarotti who refused to drink any other coffee when he was in town.

He even stopped into the store himself to pick up the coffee.

Visit the decadent Silk Road...

Silk Road is a decadent new bar that has opened at 425 Collins Street.

The items that get your attention as you view the bar from outside are the gorgeous chandeliers.

There are two which are made from crystal that weigh more than 400kg.

The bar inside has original mosaic floors and sandstone and on the ceiling you will find full reproductions of Caravaggio paintings. (One of my favourite artists.)

The flavour of the bar is a mix of Asian, Middle Eastern and Europe.

Sit down, choose a drink from the extensive cocktail list and marvel at your opulent surrounds.
